Plagiarism Policy
RUSTIC: Jurnal Arsitektur is committed to maintaining originality, academic integrity, and ethical standards in scholarly publishing. All submitted manuscripts must represent the authors' original work, and all ideas, text, data, images, figures, drawings, tables, and other materials derived from external sources must be appropriately acknowledged and cited.
Plagiarism is defined as the use of another person's ideas, words, data, images, designs, or other intellectual contributions without proper acknowledgment, thereby presenting them as one's own. Plagiarism may take various forms, including direct copying without quotation or attribution, inappropriate paraphrasing, mosaic plagiarism, and the unauthorized use or reproduction of visual or graphic materials. In the context of architectural scholarship, this policy also applies to architectural drawings, design concepts, photographs, maps, diagrams, plans, and other visual representations.
Plagiarism Screening
All submitted manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism detection software, such as Turnitin or iThenticate, or other equivalent similarity-checking tools. The screening process is intended to identify textual overlap and potential instances of unattributed content reuse. The editorial team will examine the similarity report in context, considering the sources, extent, location, and nature of the overlap, as well as the adequacy of citations and quotations.
A similarity score alone does not constitute proof of plagiarism. Properly cited quotations, references, standard terminology, and descriptions of established research methods may contribute to a similarity score without necessarily indicating misconduct. Editorial decisions will therefore be based on a substantive assessment of the manuscript rather than on a predetermined similarity percentage alone.
Self-Plagiarism and Text Recycling
Authors must not reuse substantial portions of their previously published work without appropriate acknowledgment and transparent disclosure. Reuse of text, data, figures, tables, or other materials from an author's earlier publications must be properly cited and must comply with applicable copyright and licensing requirements. The editorial team will assess text recycling on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the extent of reuse, its location within the manuscript, the nature of the material, and whether the original source has been acknowledged.
Manuscripts derived from theses, dissertations, conference papers, preprints, or other publicly accessible research outputs must disclose the relevant prior version when submitting the manuscript. Such prior dissemination does not automatically constitute plagiarism, but authors must ensure that the submitted article meets the journal's originality requirements and does not constitute redundant or duplicate publication.
Handling Suspected Plagiarism
If plagiarism or inappropriate content reuse is suspected before publication, the editorial team may request an explanation from the authors, require appropriate revisions, suspend the review process, or reject the manuscript, depending on the seriousness of the concern. Authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond before a final determination is made, where appropriate.
If plagiarism is confirmed after publication, the journal will assess the case in accordance with its publication ethics policies and relevant Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, the journal may publish a correction, issue an Expression of Concern, retract the article, or take other appropriate measures to protect the integrity of the scholarly record. The authors' affiliated institutions or other relevant bodies may be contacted when warranted.
Author Responsibility
By submitting a manuscript to RUSTIC: Jurnal Arsitektur, authors confirm that the work has been prepared in accordance with accepted standards of academic integrity, that all sources have been appropriately acknowledged, and that the manuscript is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for ensuring that all third-party materials are properly cited and that any necessary permissions for reproduction have been obtained.
The journal does not tolerate plagiarism in any form and reserves the right to take appropriate editorial action when a breach of this policy is established.
